Down the Blue Ridge
Inspired by Li Bai "Down Zhongnan Mountain to the Kind Pillow and Bowl of Husi"
Down the Blue Ridge at evening,
Moonlight was my homeward companion.
Looking back, I saw the road cloaked
In levels of deep shadow.
I was passing by the red bricks of a friend,
When he called from the porch
And said there was time to sit for a spell.
I heard the *crack* of a pop-top and approached.
I was glad of a chance to cool my heels
And glad of a chance to drink with my friend.
We sang to the tune of wind in the catalpa tree;
And we finished our songs as the moon withdrew,
When, I with a buzz and my friend in his cups,
Between us we forgot the world.
